Does your bezel setting stand out from the crowd?
The bezel setting is one of the most common styles of setting used in the jewellery trade, and a staple of the stone setter. Its crisp, clean lines are simple yet revealing, and a premium bezel setting done right can be the jewel in the crown of custom-made jewellery.
Unfortunately, many jewellers find that their bezel and flush setting skills are inflexible, inefficient and don't give the superior finish that their jewellery deserves.
Attempting to upskill using online videos can be useful, but we've seen time and time again that even the most skilled jewellers struggle to get meaningful improvements this way, as some of the essential ingredients of learning are missing.
With many years of teaching experience, Standout Stonesetting Academy brings the classroom experience to you. Whether you're hand-pushing or using a pneumatic graver, we provide live step-by-step video instructions, all the mounts and stones for repeatable practice, and individual feedback to keep you on track!

Course Outline
Through a combination of Live online classes, video recordings and detailed guides, students are guided through all the principles, processes and techniques that allow the best stone setters to do impeccable (and profitable) work every day.
Fundamentals
Fundamentals are the foundation that advanced techniques are built on.
They are often invisible and easily overlooked. But once you know them, everything else is easier to learn.
In this course:
- How bezel setting works
- How flush setting works
- How to apply the principles of both in almost any situation
- Bright cutting vs burnishing
- Curves, straights and corners
- The tools - Seeing, Holding, Doing
- Hand-push vs power-assisted
Our students often say that the principles they learned in this course have helped them in other areas of setting.
Exercises
Practice mounts are provided for students to set between classes, with the help of detailed worksheets and videos.
Stone shapes included:
- Round (bezel, semi-bezel, joined bezels and flush set)
- Oval
- Pear
- Marquise
- Square (bezel and flush set)
- Emerald cut
- Cabochon
Follow-up sessions provide evaluation, troubleshooting, Q&A and encouragement.
Tackling real work
It's the real-world variations that trip you up, and we take these seriously.
Learn how to deal with:
- Thicker and thinner bezels
- Soft stones
- Fragile stones
- Obstructions
- Setting into polished flat surfaces
- Workholding challenges
- "Unsetting" methods
- Fixing mistakes
- The Big Mistake
- Evaluating method (for teaching yourself anything)
And as always, ask the teacher anything!

"Absolutely fantastic course.
This course is great for beginners who wish to start out properly side stepping the possibility of picking up bad habits because of a lack of proper education.
Also any professional jewellers or stone setters that wish to take there craft to the next level and stand out from the crowd would greatly benefit from the course.
This is my first course with Stephen and I’ll definitely be back to learn other techniques as the Academy expands its courses.
5 Stars."
